Jayson called the meeting to order at approximately 2:00 P.M. at the park in Alpine, the original meeting place being to hot full of flies.
The minutes were not read as the new secretary forgot to bring them. They will be read at the next meeting. Our treasurer, Mary, reported the clubs balance to be $2,411.85. She also told us she had received a letter from the Marfa Radio Station thanking us for the $100.00
Jayson told the club about the television show "Cash and Treasures" coming to their ranch and Paul's shop to film. She invited everyone to come rock hunt and be on the show. They would be taking everyone on a tour of the ranch which would be free (normally $35.00 a couple). Any gathered rock would still be $2.00 a pound. Interested persons should be at the ranch on Wednesday morning at 10:30AM. No shirts with logos would be allowed. The hunting would be from 11-12:30PM, lunch, then hunting again from 2-5:30. Interested persons should call her on Tuesday to verify the times. On Friday they will be filming at Paul's shop in Marfa. The show will air in Dec. 2008.
The application for the Kiwanis Club of Alpine's annual July 4th celebration arrived. The time would be 5:00PM until dark. The booth would be for the children and flyers for club membership would also be given out. The cost for the booth is $5.00. Paul moved we do the booth, Mary 2nd. The motion passed. Anyone who can help transport the sand and other items required were asked to meet at 3:30 at Sprig's storage on HWY 90. There will be a short monthly meeting at the booth in the park.
Judith passed around a notice she received for an Agate Round Up at Apache Creek in N.M., Aug. 28 - Sept. 1st. For more information or to RSVP by Sept. 20th call Yonis Lone Eagle at 505-860-2455.
Jayson expressed reservations about Highland for the next rock show and feels a contract is required ASAP. She will go by and talk to Mike. Holding the show at the civic center in Alpine was also discussed and Paul moved that the city be given first chance and Judith 2nd. Motion passed. Judith will also check with the chamber of commerce as to membership cost.
Jayson introduced Donna Trammel as an old member who was now a new member! She also appointed her as the chairman of the show committee. Other members of the committee will be Jayson, Shirley, and Judith. Other committee's were discussed but none were formed. Virginia will take on programs for the meetings. Paul volunteered to do a program on silver and several members mentioned other ideas for programs. The program for today's meeting was postponed due to a lack of video equipment in the park.
Other new members attending today Joey Tones and Howard Kull, were welcomed.
A schedule for the next few months was agreed on.
July 4th at the booth in the Park.
August the video program postponed from today.
September meeting will be at the CDRI on Earthday.
November will be at the Christmas Craft Sale in Alpine.
December will be a pot luck dinner for the holidays.
The meeting was adjourned about 3:00.
